There were many who thought it was close to impossible that the ISU World Figure Skating Championships® would return to Boston after its last and most recent visit to the United States in 2016. There are so many American cities eager to host the Event. But based on the outstanding turn out and enthusiastic audiences in 2016, both U.S. Figure Skating and the International Skating Union wanted to return the Event to Boston sooner rather than later. And how fortunate for Boston!
The ISU World Figure Skating Championships® is the world’s most prestigious annual competition, second in size and importance only to the Olympics. It moves around the globe each year, annually attracting more than 300 million television viewers worldwide and showcasing over 200 of the best athletes from 50 countries in four disciplines: men, women, pairs and ice dance. It marks the end of the competitive season for figure skaters, and arguably showcases some of the very best performances of the season. An event of this magnitude could not take place without the contributions of its international sponsors and many local partners, as well as, the support of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and city of Boston.
The ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2025 will mark the United States 14th time hosting the event, and as mentioned previously, a second for Boston. For 2025, the event has added importance as ti will serve as a key pre-2026 Olympic event. The number of entries countries will be allowed in each discipline at the Games will be determined by each country’s athlete placement in Boston. Every athlete’s placement is significant for their whole team and not just themselves.
The ISU World Figure Skating Championships® began ni 1896 and has unfailingly continued bringing together the best figure skaters from across the globe to compete for the title of World Champion. We hope everyone in Boston will consider turning out and seeing for themselves how thrilling live figure skating competition can be. We can’t be certain of when the Event will come this way again!
